FYI for Learning Coaches
Create a Schedule!
Creating a schedule is imperative to be successful in the Online School (OLS). Below are some things to remember as you think about how to best set your family’s schedule:
- Time of day student is most alert
- Schedule the course he/she struggles with the most when he/she is most alert
- Alternate courses by doing an enjoyable course followed by a course that your student drags his/her feet to complete
- Schedule homework time for the evening so that if your student doesn’t finish his/her work within the hour allotted for the course during the day, there is a plan as to when it will be finished
- Time of day which is best for you to log attendance and lesson progress and prepare for the next school day
Attendance
Entering attendance is separate from completing or marking a lesson as complete. You must do BOTH. Attendance must be logged daily for your student. Make sure you are logging in at least 4 hours of attendance daily. If you don't have access to the computer, you can also enter attendance using the K12 attendance app.

Read your email!
The main method of communication from teachers is through email. If you are not reading email daily, you WILL be missing out on important information such as sign up links, weekly newsletters, system outage information, class connect changes, report cards and so on.
Set a reminder for student connects!
Once your teacher has sent out a signup email for a student connect, make note of this date and set a reminder. Treat this as you would a doctor's appointment or any other important event. Student connects are mandatory. Important assessments and grades are taken during these conferences. Additionally, it is your opportunity to check on progress for your child. Missing these connects will have an impact on your child's grade. If you know you will need to miss out on your connect, please let the teacher know asap.
Complete your daily plan as outlined
Your daily plan is populated with the number of lessons needed to complete the school year by the required end date. DO NOT change your child's schedule before first consulting with the teacher to make sure any changes will not have a negative impact on their grades or learning.
Moreover, should you not complete all lessons on their daily plan it is important to note that these lessons roll over to the following day. Although not explicitly stated, you are essentially a day behind and would need to double up on lessons to account for the missing one. Your teacher will also inform you of any need to makeup lessons during your monthly student connects.

Attend Class Connects
Your child is required to attend their SFS class connects for Reading, Writing, and Math this year. If your child cannot attend live, they must watch the recording. These sessions have assignments/quizzes (Exit Tickets) tied to them that will be graded.
Don't neglect iReady!
- Students will work on their i-Ready reading and math lessons every week
- Each month, students will be given a grade for their i-Ready
Third Grade-
30 minutes every week for Reading
30 minutes every week for Math
Note: These times will increase by 5 minutes for Semester 2
